Cycle Town Initiatives
What? Various projects are proposed for the town centre, which seek to make it a better place for cyclists. Proposals include -
- improving the Balkerne Hill crossing at Crouch Street, allowing better access from the west
- Highwoods and Colchester rail station to the town centre cycle route, for those entering from the north
- Improved cycle access to Colchester rail station
- Cross-town cycle routes to allow better access for all
- More and better cycle parking for the town centre
- Refurbishment of existing routes and reviewing of 'No Cycling' orders
- More and improved cycle parking at Colchester rail station
When? Colchester achieved Cycle Town status in 2008 which brought £4.2m funding for the projects listed above over the next 3 years.
Who? These will be mainly funded through the town achieving 'Cycling Town' status.
